Does this sound like you?

* Have you tried to cut down on your drinking levels but not been successful?

* Do you treat alcohol as a reward, or to relax, unwind, celebrate, commiserate?

* Has alcohol made you behave in a way you regret or have hurt those you love?

* Have you blacked out or fallen over because of your drinking?

* Are you always chasing the next drink and can't seem to find an off switch?

* Are you waiting for 5pm, or 3pm to come around so you can start drinking?

* Are you hiding the amount you drink from friends and family?

* Do you wake up in the morning with regret, and anxiety at an all time high, wondering how you ended up here again and vowing to never do it again?

My story

I've battled alcohol dependency on and off for 40 years. Ask any of my friends or family and they would say "He liked a good drink" But deep down I knew my relationship with alcohol was different than others and was unhealthy.  I had tried on occasions to cut down or give up, but when some stress entered my life I would need a drink. Alcohol seemed to be the only answer to stress, happiness, sadness, celebrations, it was ingrained deeply from childhood. I watched both parents drink very heavily, I thought it was the "way to be". Later on in life due to needing a hip replacement I started taking painkillers (codeine). Unfortunately due to the euphoric effect I became addicted to them. I have the added complication of being diagnosed at a late stage with ADHD.  I have wasted so much of my life to alcohol and its affects. Work issues, relationship issues, not to mention the financial cost. Things had to change.....

With the abundance of support and help from my girlfriend, I'd admitted myself into a rehab centre, attended AA meetings (wasn't for me), and numerous online support groups. I've read books, watched social media videos and completed CBT therapy. It's been a long journey. I've now completed my training as a Professional Sober Coach. With my lived experience I can help others navigate the path to sobriety. I look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge with others.

My learning and journey is always on going as I walk the path of sobriety.
